As far as I know, the only free version of McAfee is the 30 day Trial version.

Do you have a McAfee account or can you post me a link for the website ?

J, from memory ( a bit vague I know) that 15 month offer came with new DELL laptops and was several years ago.

Edit : A quick DDG search turned this up https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/sln152081/mcafee-securitycenter-11-6-subscription-activation-and-support?lang=en

Kaspersky do a free AV program you could give a try - https://www.kaspersky.co.uk/free-antivirus

I changed to the paid for Kaspersky Security after dumping Norton Security.

If you decide to give Kaspersky a go, let me know what you think of it as I may opt for that as well rather than paying for it when the current licence expires.

Hi, for samson,
here is the llink, where i come across
Samson, i know that you use Avast older version, so, you would have been safe with data breach by avast.
and i also know that you view avast forum post.
they just hutdown, the website of jumpshot and no one knows , if it is shut down for the outers and not about insiders.
So, i want a av with network protection, and found mcafee, which i used in my earliler days
Hi, boggins, i will try kaspersky free and tell how it is

The paid for Kaspersky Total Security has a Kaspersky Secure Connection which you enable as an optional extra, but I just use Kaspersky in its basic form.

That one transfers you to a VPN to secure your connection.

You would have to install it to find what it has.

Hi, boggins, thanks. i have downloaded the software in the link.
It is asking for activation code,
i cannot do any scan , why it is alerting activation code in free version

I'll get back to you on that - I'm in the process of installing it myself to see but it has to remove the paid for version first.

It was getting a bit confused between the paid for and the free version as to which to activate for me on signing into my Kaspersky account.

After changing the password and signing in, I got the notification that the free Cloud version had been activated.

You will have to create an account and then should be good to go.

It doesn't seem to offer as many extras as the paid for version -

Hi J, You have a good memory, I use Avast V7 and was unaffected by the data breach.

I do go over to the Avast forum sometimes, there are a few really helpful people there. However there is little input from Avast staff and some members can be a bit blind to other Avast users problems. I shall stick with it as long as I get virus definition updates oor my legacy hardware finally dies on me

Hi, samson, give me that link , where to download older version of avast of your version
the breach is more to it than meets the eye
please read alll the articles regarding it, i also wrote
Hi, boggins,
please give me the link, where to give my email and set password
should i first download the exe and then supply those things or should i first give details in their web site page.
could you say, if network protection is included in the free version
please give me , what protections it gives
is it better alternative to MSE
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

Microsoft have said to use a 3rd party AV program in preference to MSE - I assume you are still on Win 7 ?

As Win 7 is no longer supported by MS, a member has posted on the forum that you can still get Win 10 for free by using the Update now button at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

With already being a Kaspersky account holder, I don't think I'm getting the same as you when you download the free version.

Can you post me a pic of what you are getting when you download it.

The secure connection appears to be an optional extra and is found as a desktop icon after the program has been installed - I don't know if it is also free, as a VPN is involved.

Hi, boggins
here are the two pictures that i am getting for activation
please say, if kaspersky is having net protection in free version
i tried sophos home, but failed to get email confirmation to proceed.
if kaspersky has net protection and file protection, then it is good enough.

Well that is definitely not for the free version.

I wonder if the free version is available in India.

Can you Google for Kaspersky phone contact to see what they say.

I had to phone them once and I found them to be very helpful.

If you don't want to chew on with Kaspersky, Bitdefender have a free version you could try, although I have no experience of it.

Hi, i tried bit defender, it is always popping unnecessary things and it annoyed me a lot.
Hi, i tried sophos, but the email confirmation had not been received.
inue
today i said goodbye to the avast , as all the threads have gone to older pages and do not appear in first page.Hi, samson,
would you kindly mention the version full details so that i could also download and enjoy the older protection
I also wish to know from you , if i just do not opt for upgrade, only virus definition update, then i will be safe to ccont
