Hi Shane
This posters problems are very similar to mine
I really hope you can help me.
Windows features is empty and windows will not update. (code 80073712)
I have tried many, many fixes from Microsoft and yourselves but absolutely nothing seems to work.
During the running of your program, including all the 'recommended' actions sfc will also not run.
I know my way around the basics but am scared to insert the Windows 7 DVD in case I lose 'things'
I am running Widows 7 home premium 32 bit.
please help
John Sim

Always start a new thread for yourself, this way I can help one person at a time and keep track of what I have users doing :-)

I put your post in a new topic.

The other user had all updates installing fine except for just the one update.

Are you having trouble with just one update or multiple updates?

Hi Shane thanks for the move and the info.
My windows update keeps returning the code 80073712 and will not update at all.
I have tried several fixes and run your full repair package 3 times [twice with all the repairs checked]
I have downloaded and run the Simple Static IP and the Windows Features remains empty and
sfc /scannow returns Windows Resource Protection cannot ............. even when run as administrator.
I see you have helped a lot of people, so my fingers are crossed
regards
John

The error means the Windows component store is corrupted. If this doesn't fix it then you will need to do a repair install (Dont worry a repair install keeps all your programs and settings)
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/windows-update-error-80073712

If it doesnt work here is how to do a repair install :-)

First you will need a Windows 7 cd with SP1 already on it, which you can grab here
https://sites.google.com/site/linuxlablibrary/windows-iso

Then just follow this guide :-)
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Let me know if the first links gets you fixed up.
