Error 0x80070002 won't update apps win 8

<< < (6/9) > >>

GMO123:
in regedit, hkey_local_machine/software/Microsoft/windows/windowsnt/current version/profilelist/s-1-5-21 - etc.
There are two entiries.
One has profileimagepath c?users/g_m etc.
There is such a file. It exists.

The 2nd entry for profileimagePath has c:/Users/updatususer

This folder does not exist.

Should I create it or should this be something else?

Or does it matter? Is it important?

Thank you.

GMO123:
Perhaps this is significant: Security UserID="S-1-5-18" />

In regedit/profilelist s-1-5-18, profimagepath %systemroot%\system32\config\systemprofile

Boggin:
This article may help with Event ID 1508 http://kb.monitorware.com/kbeventdb-detail-id-6830.html although the elevated command is whoami /user without the /sid bit, but entering whoami /? will display this command's switches.

Thank you.

"SystemEventlog Source:Userenv Event ID:1508Full Description:Windows was unable to load the registry. This is often caused by insufficient memory or insufficient security rights. More Informations:From a newsgroup post: "These error logs indicate that the user profiles in your server are either corrupted, or are not properly configured. Suggestion 1: This can happen if some users’ ProfileImagePath registries are duplicated with other users' ProfileImagePath. To resolve the issue, perform the following steps: 1. Run "WHOAMI /USER /SID" to determine the users’ correct SID. If you do not have the whoami command tool, you can download and install it from the link below. Note: By default, it will install to the C:\Program files\Resource Kit folder. To run it, go to a command prompt and change the path to C:\Program Files\Resource Kit. Then type "whoami /USER /SID" (without quotes) and press Enter. It should display the current users’ name and SID. 2. Check the ProfileImagePath value under the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\. Note down this ProfileImagePath value. 3. Check the other ProfileList\ keys for matching ProfileImagePath values and deleted those keys. Note: Please make sure you have backed up the registry key before you delete them. 4. Test and see if the problem is fixed. Did you manually move your users' profiles to another drive? If you have moved the Documents and Settings folder, it will lead to the issue. Microsoft does not support moving the Documents and Settings folder in Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP to another drive. Suggestion 2: If the issue persists, I suggest that you create a new user and then copy the user profile. When copying, the following files should be excluded: - Ntuser.dat - Ntuser.dat.log - Ntuser.ini. "

The SID points to 'Test2' which I used when trying to create a 2nd account.

3. Check the other ProfileList\ keys for matching ProfileImagePath values and deleted those keys. "
I presume 'deleted' should be 'delete'.

I'm unsure what this all means.

1) I get the SID, which I've done.
2) I check the profile path.
3) If there are duplicates the same as 2) then delete them (doing a backup first)

I'll try it and see what happens but I should not be using 'test2' as my SID I believe because I only created it to test a 2nd account to find out if using a 2nd local account would solve the problem, and I only created it a couple days ago.

Thank you.

GMO123:
Unfortunately I didn't find any duplicate file paths. But there is a 2nd key in the SID Profile list S-1-5-21.
The profileImagepath is C:users/updatusUser. But that doesn't exist.

I have no memory of moving the Documents and Settings folder. Everything is all on drive C.
However I did partition derive C once, but I later removed that partition. I wonder if that somehow caused the problem.
