Cannot install Windows Updates
Shane:
What about my other question? When you ran the repairs did you run them all?
Also I found this on the error
--- Quote ---If you receive error 0x80246008 or 0x80246007 when you download updates from Windows Update or Microsoft Update, you might need to restart the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) or the Windows Event Log service.

Boggin:
Open a command prompt as an administrator by going Start > type cmd.exe > right click on cmd and select Run as administrator > accept the UAC and enter these commands then try Windows Updates again -
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
It's also possible your AV program could be the problem if it's anything other than MSE and while I don't normally advocate disabling an AV's firewall, do that and select just one Update to download and install.
An alternative is to select just one at a time and make a note of any fail error codes for any that fail.
EDIT - to save you a load of typing, you can copy & paste those commands directly into the command prompt where they will auto execute, but if any appear to hang just press enter.

When I tried entering each of these commands when I got to the one
"ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
I get a message that says access denied
Can you tell me where I would look to find the updates listed where I can try installing one at a time?

Access Denied is a permissions issue as I assume you ran the cmd prompt as an admin - Shane's WR may be able to resolve that.
To select which updates you want to install, go Start - type windows update and press enter.
Click on where it tells you how many updates there are and then uncheck the top box which will deselect them all.
Try checking just the Malicious Software Removal Tool update - click on OK bottom right and then install as you would normally.
wmartin:
I have gone to the list of updates and installed them manually one by one.
All installed without problem except the one listed below
Windows Update 7 for x64 based Systems (KB2800095)
It downloads but when attempting to install it says it is unable to configure and therefore fails
It has an error code 800070490
I think all of my problems have stemmed from this update
