hi,to answer your questions, yes i just downloaded mbar anti-rootkit and ran it,it said no maleware was found, then i downloaded combo fix and tried to run it but it wont work,a window pops up saying im running win2000 but im running windows 8.1,so it will not run,,alot of the programs i have used say i have no ownership, how do i take ownership of the many files that say no ownership, is there a program build into win8.1 or a program i can run to take ownership of all these files,i have both passwords of mine and the man who did own it,i have used both to try to get into my bios to switch my boot order to dvd first, but mine or his password will not work to get me into my bios, there are alot of programs online that say there program will find or remove the password for bios and recovery but i dont want to make anything worse than they allready are,i have a windows 8.1 pro dvd and key but i cant use it til i somehow get win8.1 to boot from my dvd first,im thinking now maybe just go to my dvd drive in "this pc" and double click it and run windows 8.1 pro dvd that way, but again im afraid to make things worse,i dont understand why my password will not work for bios and recovery opions,or the guy who did own it ,either password will not work,my own password works fine for getting into win8.1 and for other things in win8.1,but wont work for bios or recovery,it dont make any sence to me, my password should work for everything or am i wrong in that line of thinking,i have a acer aspire x, mini desktop, with wireless card,it has 12 GB of ram, 5700 ati grafics,4 core chip, its a high end computer, but runs like its 10 years old, i have used allmost every program on the net to fix things like ownership, spyware, root kits, wireless adapter, both from the net and build in programs,if i could do a clean install id be all set and have a super fast computer like it should be,plus this problem of win2000 when i have win8.1, there are so many problems that i cant think of them all, i used sfc /scannow it says some file are missing,or cant fix problems found,i guess im lucky that i can even use this computer, thats why im scared to try some programs that say they can fix all problems or recover bios passwords, i stick to ccleaner and mbar super anti-spyware,there are so many problems that i think the only way to really fix my computer is do a clean install, there another program i used, cant think of the name of it now but it said some windows files are not in system 32, the file are there i guess but not where they should be,anything u can think of for the many problems i have i would be very thankful for any help or advice you can give me,,thank you so much for the help you allready gave me,i think the only way is a clean install to make this computer work the way it should,im ready getting upset and im allmost ready to try--go to my dvd and run win8.1 pro dvd that way,im just scare that it will only add to the many problems i allready face,,i dont think setting up win8.1 pro by going to my dvd and running it that way,im allmost ready to try it tho, but i rather do it from boot instead of running it while im allready into win8.1,i even gone to acer site many times to see if there was anything there that might help but all i get is my drivers,no other programs are listed there to help me do a clean install, thank you for your help and i will be checking everyday to see if you have come up with anything that will help me,take care and god bless,,

Sorry I forgot combofix doesnt work on 8.1 yet and when I read win 7 at the last part of your post my brain through you where on 7 lol

My Windows repair tool, the file and registry permissions does set things back to the default owners and permissions, which with windows 8 does help fix a lot of things.

Did you try those yet?

Hi, Running All in one with individual fixes , file permission fix would definitely fix for all the version of windows up to windows 7. I think windows 8 has different interface and may be , it is not working. But, normally the files are in the same folder . As, microsoft does not change the location of important files like in registry. Try the individual fix by shane for file permission. It will work. I have solved so many problems of file permission, which is corrupted either by third party programs and files of malicious type, which reside in windows as original files and do such things.
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

can i make windows 8.1 pro boot from the dvd using advanced opions, i have tried everything to get my acer aspire ax3-100-ef10 boot from my dvd so i can do a clean install of win8.1 pro,it was just windows 8 home but i upgraded thru windows update to win8.1 then i was updating to pro and tripped on the power cord, that screwed everything up,so i just installed windows 8.1 pro over win 8.1 home, not a clean install, i installed win8.1 pro after i was in win8.1 home,i just double clicked the dvd and ran win8.1 pro that way,it seemed to fix all the problems i made ffrom tripping over the power cord,in fact it was working perfect, after i went thru the part of putting in my hotmail account and password i noticed that afew driver were allready installed, not sure about all the driver but the sound was installed and the wi-fi was installed but the video amd drivers were not installed so i went to amd and download the video driver from there and amd chipset driver, everything seemed ok,i though great now i have a good working computer,i then installed ccleaner and i ran dupacate file finder, it showed many files that were double and some files even had 4 of everything so i checked marked all of the double files and deleted them, then i had problems, skype would not work,it would kick out every time i tried to use the webcam to see my wife and baby girl, and my cpu was running at between 50 and 75 percent,so i took a look at the services and one service was doing it all,can remember what one it was but it was something like windows search,so i shut it off and disabled it,and the cpu went back to normal but still skype will not work or facebook video chat and yahoo messager, and as soon as i used firefox my cpu shot way up to 75 to 100 percent,i went back and reinabled windows search but then i got the high cpu useage back as soon as i booted my desktop acer aspire mini desktop with wi-fi the cpu went back to 50 to 75 percent again and skype and yahoo and facebook video chat still wont work, skype kicks right out,and facebook and yahoo messager freezes up, so now im at a loss for what should i do,should i just do the same as i did and install win8.1 pro after im booted into win8.1 pro and if i do that again should i uninstall all drivers first,i have all the right drivers on my usb stick from the acer website,or would uninstalloing all the drivers first then go to my dvd and install win8.1 pro like last time or would win8.1 pro crash if i uninstalled the drivers and then i would not be able to reinstall again win8.1 pro,so i guess what im asking is should i just leave my computer like it is with the drivers installed and run win8.1 pro thru the dvd or should i uninstall the drivers and then go to my dvd and reinstall win8.1 pro or would my computer become useless and i would not be able to run win8.1 pro thru my dvd, second question is if i just do like last time and dont uninstall anything and run win8.1 pro thru my dvd and after i get thru adding my hotmail account and password then look at my drivers and uninstall all of them and reinstall all the drivers from the acer website on usb stick, its really bugging me hearing my little desktop running at full 100 percent cpu, all i want to do is do aq clean install but i cant get into my bios to set the boot order,i tried my adminastrators password and that dont work,i tried leaving the password blank and just press enter, that didnt work,i tried using advanced opions to boot from my dvd but cant find anything there in advanced opions to boot from,i googled advanced opions and could not find any site microsoft or not that would tell me how to do it from advanced opions or any other way,the only way i found is to get into my bios to set my dvd to boot first, but cant my password will not work, lastly if i tried to do a system reset will my computer go back to factory settings, after all i did to the poor thing, reinstalling from within windows 8.1 and before that tripping on the power cord, and if some how it did go back to factory settings would i be able to set my own bios password so then i could do a clean install of windows 8.1 pro cause factory settings would put it back to just windows 8 home, i tried to do that before i used the dvd from within windows and refresh and reset would not even work, thats why i did it that way of installing my win8.1 pro from within win8,1 home, that was the only way i could do it,all i want is to have my dvd of win8.1 pro clean installed, would a computer store be able to do it for me,probablely cost me alot of cash but if thats the only way to do a clean install then i will,im sick of playing with this, all i can say is windows 7 and vista and xp were no problem to do a clean install, this window 8,1 is killing me slowly,,lol,,thank you for all the help so far, take care and god bless,,

Any chance that when you post you can spread out your words a bit, at least into proper paragraphs lol (So new lines, spaces and such)

It is really hard for me to read with all the words together like that, I keep going to the wrong line when reading it. I get to the end of a line then when I moved my eyes back to the right to go to the next line I totally lose where I was lol

It isn't a good idea to delete duplicate files, as you've found out.

While I don't know how Win 8.1 deals with those, Win 7 x64 includes files for the 32 bit platform which appear to be duplicate but are in fact essential files.

With Win 8/8.1 I don't think you have the one-off boot change option by tapping something like F12 as you switch on and it would seem that in the login screen to click on Restart and immediately press F2 or Esc. should get you to where you want to be - hopefully or you may need to disable the UEFI Secure Boot http://itsfoss.com/disable-uefi-secure-boot-in-windows-8/

I've also found it difficult to read your block posts.

As you'll see from other threads on the forum, long posts are frequently paragraphed.

UEFI is a safety feature which you may need to disable before you can boot up with an USB but as you've already installed Win 8.1 then I would leave it enabled.

This article while also being a tutorial, gives a bit more info on UEFI in its headers. http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/17058-secure-boot-enable-disable-uefi.html
