Problems running the Internet Explorer Repair Tool

<< < (5/6) > >>

Shane:
Oh and also this

Open Internet Explorer for the desktop, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.

On the Advanced tab, go to the Accelerated graphics section, and then turn on Software Rendering mode by choosing the Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering box.

The LAN settings were already set that way. I tried the GPU settings but they didn't make any difference and I didn't think they would because I got an Nvidia graphics card with 2 GB in it on this machine.

Shane:
Yes but the power of the card isnt the problem when it comes to that, sometimes it is the drivers. I have had to turn off GPU rendering on a lot of machines because they would get just a black window in the browser window. Always driver related when it comes to that.

I am not sure what to have you try next, you have done all the normal stuff.

1. Reset IE under advanced tab, which would have put all settings back to their defaults.
2. Disable all add ons, you did this as well, as add ons can slow down IE a ton, and this didnt help.
3. Enable Auto Proxy detection - this normally helps because it has IE recheck the network and such
4. GPU rendering, for a lot of people with IE being slow this one normally does the trick as well.
5. Tried on another user account, again you did this as well and the problem is still there.

Really the only thing left i can think of is if something is scanning IE or its network traffic, like an antivirus or firewall. You could boot into Safe mode with networking and see how IE does in there, at least that way all 3rd party programs are out of the way.

I just thought I would post a quick follow-up to let everyone know what I found. Last night after trying everything suggested here and many other things and not making any improvements I got desperate so I completely reset my router. For some reason it was causing the problem. I have no idea why with only affecting IE but it was so now everything is back to normal.

Shane:
Good find, I dont know why it would mess with just IE either, unless IE itself was trying to talk to the DNS server, which would be the router.

Glad to here you got it fixed :-)
