Windows 7 "works" but can not create folder or rename files

<< < (5/15) > >>

FreeCat:
Hi - Scannow found no errors.  I tried to use findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > %userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt --- but I got message can not find command FINKSTR.

However I went to the windows log ara and attached the file to this post.

I still get message that I am unable to creat text file on C drive.

I was able to creat a test file with copy con testing.txt CTRLz.
When I did dir testing.txt the file was there.

But if I try to create a file with NEW, the module needed is not there.

Awaiting further instrucitons.  And, thanks for your help.

Boggin:
That is the old CBS log from your previous sfc /scannow dated 19 10 7 - it doesn't appear to have created a new one when the sfc /scannow was performed in Safe Mode.

Why did you run it in Safe Mode ?

Run it again in normal mode but I'd really like you to invoke the hidden Admin account to see if that makes any difference when trying to create a New folder/file.

EDIT - I've been checking my Win 7 machine and it appears to be producing the same CBS date/time stamped log even though I've done a scan in both normal and Safe Mode and even one about 20 mins later.

Go to C:\Windows\Logs and right click on CBS and select Delete then reboot.

Windows may create another CBS log but with another date.

To check this, go to C:\Windows\Logs - right click on CBS and see if you can send it to Documents where you may then be able to open it with a double click.

You may have to do this again to get a CBS log that doesn't contain a sfc /scannow log.

Reboot then perform another sfc /scannow in normal mode and post its report.

OK - I thought it had to be in safe mode.  Will run again in normal mode.  Thanks for your help.

See my edited post.

I'm going to roost now as it's after 12:45am here in the UK.

If the sfc /scannow still comes back clean then I want you to invoke the hidden admin account as I've described and see how you get on with that.

If you still can't work with new folders/files then I want you to check if you can still read the product key on the COA sticker label on the computer.

If you can, make a note of it then press the Windows key - right click on Computer and select Properties and let me know which version of Win 7 you are using.

I have ISOs for Win 7 SP1 x32 and 64 bit.

The 64 bit one is for the Pro version but with the eicfg file removed, that converts it to an universal install ISO to make a bootable disk.

If you can still read the product key then press the Windows key and r then type in the Run box Slui 3 and enter that product key.

I can create and send you a couple of install disks (one spare) to perform a repair install which won't affect your personal stuff or installed programs.

The machine may or not succeed with a repair install - mine doesn't accept it but yours might.

You will need to PM me your address if required.
