Hi Shane i ran the repair (offline) through the Vista machine and when i restarted it

Configuring updates stage 3 of 3 -0% complete

 then it would reboot etc.

Please can you help

Hi Shane it has happen again after i had run the update All In One Repair (1.9.4).

How can i fix this.

I want to get this fixed in the program, post #13 on here
http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/solved-windows-vista-stuck-in-configuring-updates-cycle-637425.html

My repair does everything but the removing of the xml file. I am thinking of adding that to the repair as well.

Shane

That would be great, i was holding back running the Repair on the Vista machine because of this, i know you have said that the repair doesn't do anything for updates but has happened x 3 times on reboot, maybe bad timing?

Something else with the XP machine when going from window to window it is very slow changing e.g. Explorer to Outlook (bottom left corner, beside START.

Thanks again

Hi Shane, i did what you suggested and it ran great, took about 1.5 hours to run, normally takes about 3 hours. It sounds like this is the hold up when i run the Repair.

Is there something i can possibly do to fix this?

Thanks again

Hi Shane i have kept the machine going by moving the mouse.

I am currently running the All In One 1.9.5, i started at 11.53am and is now 2.20pm and it is only got as far as RESET REGISTRY PERMISSIONS 03/03. It seems to be stuck on this.

I have aborted and will try again.

I have tried 3 times now.

Honestly you can save yourself a lot of headache with a nice fresh install. All you need is the XP disc and make sure you have the network drivers downloaded before hand.

Thanks Shane

Which Disc, there are three?
Please can you tell me how i know network drivers are downloaded?
Won't doing a fresh install put everything back to original state e.g. service packs, windows updates etc?

It is something to consider, before you do that have you done a memory test and hard drive test to make sure there isnt a hardware problem?

Please can you tell me how to a memory and hard drive test?

Hi Shane with the new version 1.9.5 (and the last 1.9.4) seems to either go to sleep or hibernation, doesn't wake up with a move of thew mouse or pressing any key, i start it again with the power button.

Freezes early, when i wake it up it seems to have frozen.

Sorry that's what i meant by nothing, neither opens at all.

I have been told she bought it from a company, and is now asking for the administrators password.

They will not release the password.

It continues by pressing OK but then no more action from then on, so i am think that the computer is still locked?

Thanks again

Hi Shane thank you

This is for someones else computer

I tried

1. Safe mode by F8, nothing
2. Tried CTL ALT Delete for the task manager
3. Tried CTL Shift ESC nothing

The only thing that is working is the desktop wallpaper + mouse movement only

I have heard since that windows updates for XP are causing some current issues.

Interesting thing is i did the following to this computer. It was extremely slow starting up (10-15 minutes) and slow in general.
Disabled alot of startup items rebooted all good, started within 3-4 minutes used website, ok.
CCleaner, rebooted all good used website, ok.
Simple Tweak, rebooted, all good, used website, ok.

Everything had improved, explorer seem to be great, but after entering a couple of websites it seemed to act slow again, no slower than before though.

Left windows automatic updates running, installed, rebooted, now this problem.

2. Then no icons, absolutely nothing just the wallpaper with flower

3. Rebooted then says This computer is locked only or an administrator can unlock

Thanks Shane

Sorry about the length tf the thread, I will keep this short.

1. I just use the FREE Malwarebytes, which is manual isn't it, so doesn't take as much reosources?

2. Does FREE Avast default to scanner running at all times?

3. ALL ONE RERPAIRS:
With the Vista machine to run this takes about 20-30 minutes
With the XP machine it takes about 3 hours, sometimes it stalls and ending up re running

Is this normal?

Hi Shane i have just started the computer and i got a prompt (box) on the desktop saying something like svchost couldn't be written would you like to terminate the program or debug.

The computer became very unresponsive (i tried to do a print screen).

I have rebooted after choosing the terminate option and all is ok, so far.

What could be this?

Thank you very much for your help.

As a personal opinion what do you think of Windows 8?

I dont use the auto protect with malwarebytes. I only run it manually when I need to. Only scanner running at all times for me is the free version of Avast

Shane

Thanks again

Hi Shane i managed to fix it last night with the code above, but with the "text" removed from the command prompt.

Can i disable updates in ALL IN ONE REPAIR, it seems to be only after running the program? This has only been happening on the last 3 versions.

Sorry i am using Free Advast, so is it still ok to run on it's own or do you think leave Malwarebytes on, both low resource machines?

Thanks again

Hi Shane for low resource machines is it a waste to have Malwarebytes with Advast or is Advast ok on its own?

Hi Shane

1. Should i include in CCleaner "prefetch"?

2. Is Check Disc important?

3. By doing the Simple Tweaks doesn't appear to quicken up the XP machine, only when  i run the ALL In ONE REPAIR.

4. When i click on Low Resources zip there is no option to RUN? It just opens and the files going over to the folder begins, and goes for along time?

Thanks again

2. Where and how do i put the registry, iknow how get vinto the Registry but that is about as far as i have got.

3. Should i load the Windows XP discs before using the programs, if so which one i don't want to loose updates e.g. Windows, Service packs. The disc is service pack 2, the XP computer has Service pack 3?
