General Computer Support / All In One Repair 1.9.10
« on: February 22, 2013, 05:34:07 pm »
Hi Shane

When running the new version it is stalling again, i ended up turning it off hanging for over half an hour.

It was stalling on RESET FILE PERMISSIONS or RESET REGISTRY PERMISSIONS.

Which XP disc do i need to run the SFC?

How many discs should come with XP?

Thanks again

Hi Shane

Is it best just to wait for the update, will this delete it and fix the problem?

Or should i delete it manually, if so what do i delete and how?

Thanks you

Thank you for your reply

I tried a system restore but nothing happen, still got the same warning.

Can i re-run version 1.9.7, would that correct this?

Should i let it change the name?

Thank you

Hi Shane i have attached a file (notepad)

I want to stop using the CCleaner Registry part of this program, but might be able to give some info.

The attached i have not fixed via CCleaner Registry cleaner.

The file contains what CCleaner has picked up, does this look familiar?

The "omni" file is a file i have deleted recently.

Thanks in advance

Hi Shane in the System Tools in XP

With
1. Disc Cleanup which items are risky to keep ticked (deleted)?

2. How often should Disc Fragment be processed?

3. Compress Drive to Save Disc Space tick or untick?

Thanks in advance

Hi Shane

I ran the repair through again without doing a system restore.

I have attached the log file which with those that you displayed ran a bit faster by approx 10 minutes but the overall took a bit longer.

Also the computer didn't go into hibernation.

162
Hi Shane i have attached the log files as requested.

Thank you

1. It went into hibernation (i think) i had to press the power button to continue and the program kept on going but took alot longer than normal to run (about 6 hours)

The program doesnt keep the system from going to sleep. I should see if I can find a way to disable sleep while the program is running :-) Also what repair took so long?

3. Is it ok now to run the 1.9.7 through the Vista machine with the Windows Updates problems i was having. I didn't run the Windows Updates on 1.9.6 and seem to be ok.

I dont know since I couldnt replicate the problem here with vista. So if you plan on running it on Vista just make sure to do a backup first so you can resotre it if anything happens :-)

Shane

Thanks Shane

With the XP machine going into Hibernation i did a system restore and re-run it and it went through with no probelsm and took 1.5 hours instead of 6 hours.

With the Vista and windows updates i can't get into system restore even safe mode when it happens.

Thanks again

Shane

Thanks Shane will do.

Talking to my brother in law and he said that his work laptop is fast at work but when he plugs in to the router at their house he said that it is very slow in comparison.

He also said when my sisters XP laptop (the computer having download problems) and the Mac is plugged into the router they are both very slow as well. He said that the Mac also stops and starts during a Youtube video.

They have been told by the broadband line supplier etc that alot alot of people would like to have the speed they have.

My way of thinking is its not the computers, maybe the line or router problem what do you think?

What can i do to help them.

Thanks again

166
Thanks Shane

Yes i think it is on wireless.

I will try disabling, i wondered this sometimes can get in the road.

Any browser you reccomend?

Can i download the browser from the Mac then transfer to the XP machine and is it bit dependant?

Thanks again

Hi Shane i have just been talking to her and her Mac computer doesn't have a problem downloading etc.

When playing a Youtube video on the Xp laptop it stops and starts, but on the Mac it doesn't stop at all.

Keeping in mind they are on broadband.

Hope this helps a bit more

Thanks again

That all depends. Is something else on the system using the CPU or the hard drive a bit?

How many downloads is she doing? And is anything else downloading in the background?

You can have her use my free version of my simple internet meter program and keep an eye on how much speed is going in and out of her system as a whole :-)

Thanks Shane

1. How do i find out if something else is on the system using the CPU or the hard drive a bit?
2. She is only downloading one at a time, but she just emailed to say that there is a Windows Update downloading, this would make a difference?
3. Any problems using Windows XP disk cleanup, and anything to look out for not to delete or compress files etc?

Thanks again

Hi Shane this is comment from my sister about her 7-8 year old XP laptop computer.

She is on broadband and is taking along time to download her sons games as well as Google Chrome etc, but also computer is a bit slow anyway.

The Defrag is set to auto and has recently been done.

The memory has 25% space left.

Can you suggest something please?

I was goiing to use the Windows Disk Cleanup, any concerns with this?

Thanks in advance

Thanks Evan / Shane

How do you recommend to do the speed test?

Others seem to be doing better since running the updates.

1. Going from window to window or escaping, this is slow.
2. Navagation around the computer can be slow e.g. opening documents.
3. Email slow when opening and closing and navigation.
4. Saving documents is also slow
5. Sometimes i have to re-click on the website or website page for it to open, either doesn't open or very slow.

Thanks again

General Computer Support / Help for Shane and a thank you
« on: January 18, 2013, 06:49:58 pm »
Hi thought i would post this thread for Shane.

Mainly my thoughts are if there is anything we can send, some sort of reports of some sort that would make it easier for Shane (time etc).

Shane is there anything we can send in general that would give you more specfic info e.g. reports from a program.

Registry Cleaners seem to give info errors before the user proceeds with the Clean, would this help?

Thanks alot for your help and fast reponses Shane, really appreciated.

I tried to save a Word document a error saying couldn’t save due to a file permission error popped up. I retried and it worked again, but ocassionally it still does it.

That sounds like it may be your Antivirus scanning the file before it lets you save it. I have had it happen on a few customers computers. If you disable the antivirus do you still have the error?

Shane

Hi Shane thank you.

1. I have just run the updated version (1.9.6) through the XP machine and it made it past the permissions problem (earlier in this thread), although later it went ibto standby, so i pushed the power button and the program continued with no problems.

2. When the saving error permission happened again after that post i retried and it saved ok, haven't had a problem since.

3. Is it ok to run the 1.9.6 version through on the Vista machine as you have fixed the pending Windows update problem?

4. Once again (excellent) running the Repair through the XP machine has made it faster and smoother, though the repair doesn't normally do this.

Thanks again

Thanks again

Hi Shane is it ok to back to the older versions 1.9.4 or 1.9.3, the XP computer isn't happy.

I tried to save a Word document a error saying couldn’t save due to a file permission error popped up. I retried and it worked again, but ocassionally it still does it.

I have attached a CCleaner (the registry) portion if this helps?

Thanks again

If there was a way to find out what key is pointing back to the root we could.

This is called symbolic links.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link

We find which key has the symbolic link causing the problem then we can remove that link so the infinite loop stops.

Shane

Hi Shane the CCleaner Registry Cleaner, computer soo slow, and it came up with Framework 1 as alot of errors, deleted these (like a idot, i could of sent a screen shot, if it had helped). If you like i can do a system restore and catch these again?

Strange some of the XP updates had Framework.

Thanks again
