Try running this. It is called autoruns.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902

You don't have to install it. Just run it, click on services tab and see if windows defender is listed there, this should at least let you know if the service is still present. Don't uncheck anything in this program unless you know what your doing, in fact before you run it, create a restore point! LOL! This little utility will show you almost everything running. It should look like my attachment. You can also see what drivers are running or not and a whole host of other process's.

Registry optimizer would be nice. Something to use every once in a while to compact registry, especially after some spring cleaning of programs not used anymore.

Yes I installed latest drivers. Realtek is the latest and it works fine. I uninstalled all audio drivers and let wondows install its audio driver like it always does. Same thing happens. So I reinstalled realtek. If I let realtek start up with windows and use it's icon it works fine. It's just the windows icon in system tray not working right. I could hide the windows speaker and just use the realtek speaker icon in system tray to switch between my desk top speakers and my home audio system, but it bugs that this isn't working right.

Shane,

I am having this problem with rundll32.exe.  In the first shot you can see the speaker icon in the system tray. When I right click it to bring up sound options, it will not show up (I use this to switch to digital output so i can listen to music through house speaker system) on monitor but rundll32.exe is present in task manager (Shot2). If I open another window of a different program it will show (not immediately thought, almost like it needs a kick start). This only happens after my system has been running longer than a hour or so. I have run windows repair (reset registry and file permissions, register system files and repair exe association), ran avast and malwarebytes (full scans). Before all of this I ran check file system and system file check. I don't know where to go from here. Can you help?

Everything Else / Ping

I'm on steam now. I'm trying to play ravaged but I keep getting warnings that my ping is too high. I changed it to the lowest setting of 250 but I get the same thing and sometimes vehicles in the game will show running from the same spot over and over. Could this be router issue?

We'll I figured it out. I just couldn't wait for my new monitor to check it, as this monitor was working perfectly before my new build. So after about 4 un-installs and re-installs of the catalyst install manager, I went for the custom installs each time to figure it out. Basically I only loaded the display drivers and hdmi drivers, and unchecked everything else it would let me uncheck. Seems that all the extras for steady video, overdrive etc.. were causing the problem because my screen behaves like it should now! I forgot to mention that I bought a second card Wednesday (same one) for crossfire (the problem started occurring before the second card install). Works great. Thanks for your help Shane.

Runs absolutely like a scalded dog. I ran furmark bench test, 15 minute burn in test. All excellent times. I droped the clock a little to check it. It resumed one time from sleep state.

It's been factory overclock. I can try dropping it. Temps hover around 30 c under normal conditions.

Nope. ESC doesn't work. have to press control alt delete. I have removed drivers and re installed already to see if that would fix it.

no. I did use to keep it on MaxPerformance though. Would there be any difference between both settings to cause problem or what I perceive to be a problem.

I'm using your set up for power options MaxBattery/Performance. I am only letting it put the screen to sleep after 45 minutes though. Screen goes black (sleep)after 45 minutes like it should. When I go to wake it by moving the mouse, it wakes the monitor up but the screen is gray, nothing more. I have to then press control alt delete then the screen returns to normal and I press cancel to get rid of control alt delete options. It seems the keyboard will wake it with Con+alt+del but the movement of the mouse doesn't quite do it.

Hey bud. I need some help. My screen is set to sleep after 45 minutes. However, it will not wake from moving the mouse. This is what happens. I shake the mouse to wake screen. The screen changes from black ( asleep ) to gray. I can wake by pressing control alt delete then hit cancel. What gives. This is the new rig I built. I am using a xfx radeon r7770.

Okay,

First off, when it runs it is fine. It's just not hidden. I switched to system account it does the same thing. Switched to run minimized, it still shows on desktop. Like I said, I ran it both hidden and minimized from both current account and system account and it still shows on desktop. Here is a picture. Was what you were asking me for. If so I had to manually check it in the task scheduler.

Shane,

I have the registry back up program scheduled to run hidden. Last night I noticed it was running and you could see it on the desk top. It's running under current user account (The administrator account). Do I need to set it to run under system account?

Okay,

Couldn't help myself. I overclocked to 4.0 ghz with 1.36 volts, then enabled cool n quite. Works well. Bench marked for four hours. Heat under full load was 54 c. I will not go higher as I am not comfortable with going over 55 c. With cool n quite enabled temps go down to about 34 c. I think I have a pretty good sweet spot for this thing now. I have read in forums that some folks are getting as much as 4.5 ghz, but voltage is soaring. They must be brave or have tremendous cooling lol!

As far as a graphics card is concerned, I have a xfx  R7700. Do you overclock your gpu? If so, what software are you using to do it and will it load with windows start up?
