Once I uninstalled the stand alone version and set the schedule through reg back in the all in one it works fine. It's working so that's how I'll leave it. By the way, is there anyway to maybe install one version of this. I have just about all of your programs and almost all of them come with the reg back up program. Is there any way I can install just one reg back tool..lol!

Any idea why vss is open so long? And if there is a reg setting to change timeout for it?

after rechecking, it does shutdown, it takes hours though for it, to not minutes. The reason I found it is because I have the registry back up set to run at mid night every day. When I got up in the morning, just looking around I noticed it was running. So i ran the reg back program from the task scheduler ( Click on task and choose run) it would fail. So I open the program and ran it manually and ran fine. I deleted the schedule then reset it and I got the same problem. I then uninstalled the reg back up program, Opened windows repair all in one and set the schedule for reg back up from there and it works fine. So was there a hick up with the stand alone reg back up program which caused my vss to keep going (it still stays open for hours now before it times out like it should). Is there a reg setting for time out on this?

I thought this service was supposed to shut down after inactivity?. The service is set to manual and it starts with windows. My back ups work fine and so does my registry back ups. I did a fresh install of windows 7. On my old install, it would shutdown after back ups were done. Which way is it supposed to be? I ran the windows repair program for it.

Shane's program is laid out in a step by step fashion to help get your friend's system back in good running shape. Keep in mind there is always the possibility that things could be so messed up, that only a fresh install will fix it. Usually his program can fix most problems though. So give it a shot, and let people now about Tweaking.com programs.

General Computer Support / Can a blown motherboard also take out the cpu?
« on: January 23, 2014, 11:22:35 am »
Hey Bud,

Here is my problem. I was stress testing my amd 8320 on my asrock 990fx extreme 9 and the system shut down...then I could smell something metalic.. crap!!!  ooppss  So my first guess was the PSU as my system would not boot (nothing from the motherboard, not lights, nothing). Pulled out the PSU and tested it and it works (hooked up fans to and it runs). So I figured I would order a new motherboard (the one that blew up smelled bad right around he VRM's but no sign's of burning or bulging capacitors, obviously the motherboard took a crap ). So I ordered the Asus crosshair V formula z. Hooked everything up with old power supply and old CPU, the motherboard boots with lights and fans spining  but will not post with error code FF (nothing specific about it in the manual). However the led on the motherboard indicates a cpu problem. So I didn't trust it, went and bought another PSU and same results. My question after this long winded speech is. When the asrock blew could it have taken the CPU with it? Oh, also tried different RAM in the new motherboard as well, same result.
What could have caused this motherboard to fail? It's only 6 months old (I know anything can happen). It is supposed to be thier top of the line board for the FX furnace/power hungry waffer.
I have just order the 8350 and hope it works with the new motherboard.

Hey!

I had a problem the other day with my ups back up (causing my system to shutdown under load). The battery was bad. I moved to a bigger ups back up...problem solved.

Have you performed a chdsk and sfc scan from the windows repair program here at tweaking.com? If you can run them.

Chris

I would run chkdsk then move on to other hardware checks.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: System Restore & Registry Back up
« on: December 16, 2013, 12:40:44 pm »
My old lap top doesn't have any files on it I care about. My desk top does and I do use the reg back up and back up software, but I have never used system restore on it. So I can keep system restore disabled on my lap top as well  Thanks, I needed to know I was on the right track and you have done that for me.

Hey Bud,

I currently have system restore enabled on my old lap top. Would the registry back up program suffice instead of system restore? I'm leaning toward yes. Looking for validation though.

Hey Man,

I have my hotmail and gmail accountes connected to thunderbird. Hotmail is my primary and I get new mail notifications in the system tray. It doesn't give me new mail notifications for the gmail account. How do I set up thunderbird to notify me of new emails for both accounts?

What do you think this anti-rootkit from Malwarebytes? Is it a good toll to have or stick with Tdsskiller?

Hi Guys,

Have you seen this in msconfig for avast(now avast has two start up items). Looks like it's part of the new avast, but no one seems to know exactly what it does. Any ideas as to what it does.
