Hello
I am using the default which runs the registry backup at log on with current user account.
Two questions, please;
1-is this the right choice for log on
2-why does it seems not to take as long a a manual backup? Is it because it is running in the background?

Should be fine, it is how I have all mine set on each system

Not sure why it would be faster except maybe the VSS was already up and running or has less to do at startup to VSS is ready faster

I did not see anything when it runs at log on, as when I perform a manual backup, but that is to be expected, I think.

Yes when it runs under the system account you wont see it
