Internet Security Warning - using Outlook Mail
« on: January 10, 2014, 02:03:01 am »
See files attached; only the error, no references referred using outlook 2003

I finally found the certificate error popped up on outlook 2007

Attached the certificate; is it a back door virus to read all our email?
I named it mailzhang myself to save it to the desktop...

I received this certificate from a website error, or did I?
I had to save the file as a new name from outlook 2007, then I had to install it to get rid of this message.

Question is; is this a legitimate certificate or a program disguised to capture all my email?

This is common error i see in outlook when the mail server is using ssl.

I have a lot fo customers who use dreamhost.com for hosting. And so when the user connects to dreamhost servers the IP doesnt match their domain name so outlook throws a error up saying that the ssl cert doesnt match the name.

So take tweaking for example. If I was using outlook  (I use thunderbird by the way) and I was connecting to mail.tweaking.com but the ssl cert is for dreamhost.com then outlook will complain. Even though the email is hosted there.

So you just ignore the error and it wont pop up again till you close and open outlook again. This is a known problem with outlook and doesnt mean you have a virus.

Set what back to default?

If you look at the email account settings in outlook you had it set to use SSL. So that message was saying it couldn't verify the SSL cert. If you put outlook back to not using the SSL setting then you wouldnt get that error.

So what did you change exactly?

HI Shane;

yeah, I had set the SSL settings to SSL use port 965 and 465. but Go Daddy service had so many problems and still does!
I had to reset them back to default...

also, other email programs using SSL should click on the setting (set to default)

all is well for now.
