Missing device - CD/DVD
« on: March 28, 2014, 06:09:43 am »
Today my in-built CD/DVD player is "missing" from my PC.  When I go into Devioce Manager it shows message - "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".  I have searched for solutions including 1) Restart PC 2) Uninstall device  and restart PC 3) Look for update for driver 4)Using regedit to fix HKEY LOCAL MACHINE etc etc.  Nothing has worked and I restarted my PC after each "fix".  When I insert a DVD the drive whirs etc so I am at a loss to know how to fix this.  Appreciate any help you can give.  Running Windows 7 Home Premium/System Mechanic 12.7/AVG 2014 Anti-virus etc etc.

Thank You

Managed to sort this one.  I downloaded and ran Malwarebytes which found a number of problems which it quarantined.  After restart, my drive re-appeared.  Not one solution offered by searching on Google  recommended running a malware software.  I have (paid for) AVG Anti-Virus (2014) and it didn't make a squeak!!  Thanks for help offered, Shane. Much appreciated.  Greetings from England.
