Even more great news.

I upgraded to the latest version of Tweaking, and ran a pre-repair scan test. I got more errors than last time. I tried to fix them using the sfc /scannow command, and it says that all of them couldn't be fixed. I have attached the scan log.

What to do now?

Do you have the original install disk; sounds like its time to do a repair install!!!!!

I guess it is time. I do not have the original disc, as my computer came preinstalled with Windows 7. I tried to get the ISO from the Microsoft website, but it says "The product key you entered appears to be for software that was pre-installed on a device.  Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options."

Also, does the repair install delete my data? I don't want to go through the hassle of reinstalling and setting up my apps all over again...

- Did you run the "System Update readiness Tool" ?

I assume it will fix a number of "Update" problems.

All of those mum files could just mean that the windows database of the .cat files is corrupt and just needs to have the cat files added back to it.

In the pre scan tool in the current version you will see a check box to add the cat files back to the windows catalog database, put a check on that and run the pre-scan again and lets see how it goes :-)

Willy - did that, and it installed an update, but the issues still remain.

I can see that it is running on Services, but I don't see it on the Task Manager...

The more I think about it, the more I agree with Rick's suggestion of doing a repair install. However, my OS came preinstalled and cannot get the ISO from microsoft's website, and I don't want to lose my files and program settings...

I havent been able to find any safe download links for the ISO's either. I have them all myself of course, but they are 3GB and larger and I cant easily just upload them. So thanks to MS's decision to remove the ISOs, then the only way for a legit user to get a install disk is from torrent sites, which of course means there is more chance the user could get an infection if they dont know what they are doing.

Ok, I took the risk and got a Windows 7 iso file from a torrent site (no piracy here, I have the product key from OEM, and scanned it before using it). Did a upgrade install (to preserve my apps and other data), and it fixed my issues.

All Windows updates installed sucessfully. Pre repairs scan found no errors. System file checker tool found no issues.

Thanks to all that have helped me in this thread, as I wouldn't have solved my issues without them!

Good to hear the repair install did the trick :-D

Still really crappy of MS to remove the ISO files, forcing people to grab them for torrent sites.
