(Mostly solved)Windows update missing files.
« on: July 16, 2015, 01:35:17 pm »
Hello! I've been having various issues with windows update, so I ran Windows repair, and the pre-scan said that 6 files associated with windows update were missing. I ran SFC and it said it couldn't fix it. I ran windows repair for windows update and important services twice, once after a reboot, and the problem was still there. I have a windows 7 SP1 home premium. Pre-scan log is as follows:
Tweaking.com - Windows Repair v3.2.5 - Pre-Scan
Computer: ANGELICA-PC (Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1) (64-bit)

Scanning Windows Packages Files.

These Files Are Missing: (Total: 6)
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_1_for_KB3035583~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.13.cat
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_1_for_KB3035583~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.13.mum
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB3035583_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.13.cat
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB3035583_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.13.mum
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB3035583~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.13.cat
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB3035583~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.13.mum

Problems were found with the packages files, these files need to be replaced (These mainly only effect installing Windows Updates.)
The SFC (System File Checker) doesn't scan and replace some of these files, so you may need to replace them manually.
These files do not keep the repairs from working, you may still run the repairs in the program.

If you need help in replacing these files, post on the Forums at Tweaking.com for help.

Scan Complete - Problems Found!

You can use the Repair Reparse Points or Repair Environment Variables tools at the bottom of this Window if needed.

While problems have been found, you can still run the repairs in the program.
But for the best results it is recommended to fix the problems reported in this scan if possible.
If you need help fixing any of the items in the log, just post in the forums at Tweaking.com for help.

Any help would be appreciated!

First grab the zip file off this page and apply the reg file it in to add the take owner ship to the right click menu in explorer.
http://www.tweaking.com/articles/pages/add_quottake_ownershipquot_to_right_click_menu_in_vista_amp_7,1.html

Once that is done go to C:\Windows\servicing\ and right click on Packages and click on take ownership. You will now be able to copy the files into that folder.

I have attached the missing files, extract the files out of the attached zip file and put them in the C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\ folder.

Then run my pre-scan again, put a check on the box to have it add the cat files back to the database.

Also, you can still run the repairs, but you will want to run them all, make sure to run them in safe mode and to do a registry backup first and then do all the repairs. A lot of times, because how windows is linked to one thing to another, that other repairs can help, such as permissions and registering files and such.

I'm sorry, but when I run the reg file by double clicking, it just opens it up as text? How do you fix that? Thanks for the help so far btw.

Thanks! It worked completely and fixed everything, no problems found. Also should I run ALL repairs, or just exclude some of them like fix Windows 8 store (I'm on 7) and unhide nonsystem files? Also my registry backup isn't working, it just says it failed and with and gives me two options, close the backup windows or view folder. It does that whether or not I'm using VSS. Do you need the backup_info.txt or Log_Backup.txt?

Have the program do all the repairs, any for 8 the program will auto skip. Make sure to do all the repairs in safe mode.

And as for the registry backup, just make sure your profile and the main system registry got backed up. If the error was simply another user profile, like the one made by another program, then you can ignore those errors
