I installed and ran the Tweaking.com Windows Repair program today and was very impressed.

I have just one query. When I open Windows Update and go to Update History it says no updates have been installed, which is incorrect, whereas Installed Updates correctly shows that a total of 221 updates have been installed. How can this discrepancy be resolved?

Please advise.

It's quite possible that one of the steps to resolving Windows Update problems in WR is that the SofwareDistribution folder was emptied or renamed to SoftwareDistribution.old which will remove the update history.

It doesn't affect the number of installed updates.

- The "C:\Windows\Softwaredistribution\Download" folder contains all the download files.
- The "C:\Windows\Softwaredistribution" folder contains info on what the status is of all downloads/updates.
- Windows Repair deletes the content of the entire "C:\Windows\Softwaredistribution" folder.

Correct. When windows update is corrupt it has to be redone, so the history that it shows is gone but the updates are still installed and still show up in the add/remove programs.

So when you run windows updates for the first time after the repair you will notice that first run will take a while, that is because windows update is scanning the system and rebuilding its database of what is installed and what updates are needed. After that first run any other runs after will be faster since its database is rebuilt.

You use the Modify button to edit posts.

Normally when you log in, that would set the time to your time zone on other forums I'm registered on, but on here, the time zone seems to be fixed at Shane's time zone and I am exactly 8hrs ahead of it.

Click on profile at the top, and then once loaded, over on the left click on "Look and layout" and there you can change the time settings.

I need to see if there is a way to have it set to auto.

I ran Windows Repair for a second time, and now Windows Update shows a total of 199 installed updates, whereas the first run of Windows Repair showed 221, which is correct. How do I fix this error?

Some updates replace older updates. When you ran my tool it wiped windows updates and its database, making it rebuild new.

So when windows updates ran again after it rebuilt its database. So it is possible that old updates that have been replaced simply are no longer counted or windows update hasnt finished updating its database of what is installed yet

But no updates where touched by the program, so dont worry, nothing was removed with those
