-upgraded to 8.1 shortly thereafter
-upgraded to Windows 10, 7/2016
-Minecraft would not work with computer
-two days after upgrading to 10, tried to rollback to 8.1
-received error "We’re sorry, but you can’t go back. The files we need to take you back were removed"
-refreshed computer (cleared all data/programs) back to factory setting, Windows 8 (not 8.1).
-started to run Windows Updates and able to download/install approximately 80 updates
-there after, repeatedly got error - "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"
-ran "Fix It" from MS at the url below:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/949358-errors found and fixed
-ran Windows Update | still got error "Failure configuring Windows updates..."
-ran sfc /scannow | successfully repaired errors
-Windows Updates still would not install
-in Safe Mode with Networking, ran Windows Repair v3.6.1 but started with power cycling PC | ran full AV scan, etc. | and then finally to repairs
-repairs took about 4 hours to complete | recall seeing errors with System Reparse points but they were repaired
-rebooted PC | started repairs a second time| in Safe Mode with Networking
-after about 13 hours of running, proceeded to bring up Task Manager and then a few seconds later the PC froze
-was unable to bring up any apps, shutdown, restart command, etc.
-finally did a hard reset to shut down the PC
-restarted | got error message "WDF_violation" | about 3 to 5 seconds later, BSOD
-hard reset again | booted | BSOD a second time
-removed corupt HDD from computer | installed it in second bay on functional PC
-using Seagate SeaTools for Windows, ran the following tests: S.M.A.R.T., Short DST, Short Generic and Long Generic
-HDD passed all tests
-obviously integrity of the hardware of the HDD is fine, but the data is not
-put corrupt HDD back in original computer
-switched monitors (hoping that it might be a video driver issue)
-started machine and still BSOD and no beep codes this or any previous times
-opened optical drive | inserted first of three recover discs | hard reset to shutdown
-immediately after restarting, spammed the Esc key to enter recovery options | only had BSOD
ADDITIONAL OBSERVATIONS/QUESTIONS:-the machine is not completing POST.
-feel it is unlikely the CMOS battery going dead as I have not experienced the signs of CMOS battery
going dead (invalid configuration message, press F1 to continue, clock error, etc.).
-suspect the mobo may be damaged since POST is failing
-can the data on a HDD be so corrupt that it would not pass POST?
-with BSOD, I can't "see." So even though the optical drive is OK, can't load the recovery
NEXT STEPS I AM CONSIDERING:-using a functional computer, format the main partition (volume) only of the corrupt HDD? or
-format the main partition (volume) AND the backup reserve partition?
-something else that I just haven't considered?
Thank you in advance for any assistance you all can provide!
