Need help with system restore point immediately! [SOLVED]
« on: October 30, 2016, 03:24:31 am »
Product: Tweaking.com - Windows Repair v3.9.14 (Pro Version)
OS: Windows 10 Home Edition

I created a system restore in "Step 5: Backup"

I did all the repairs and tweaks and stuff.

Afterwards, i wanted to revert back as i did not like it.

I went back to step 5 and clicked "restore" under system restore.

It opened up another window.

I clicked "next"

There were no restore points there!

Oh no!!

What should i do now?!

Go back to Option 5 in Safe Mode and use the Registry Restore option.

Use the dropdown to select the one it should have made prior to running the repairs.

- What is the amount of disk space that's allocated to System Restore ? I have seen that when the user has granted the OS too little diskspace for System Restore, then Windows won't create a Restore point (at all).

As it's Win 10 then System Protection may have been turned off, although I don't know if manually creating one would re-enable it.

I always check System Protection after any updates and found it turned off after a recent repair install on this machine.

1. Yes, system protection was enabled.

2. That actually might be the problem!

I had 9 GB allocated for system restore.
One restore point i created a few months back was as big as 4 GB!

After noticing this, i have now allocated it 100 GB. That should be enough, right?

3. I already used my registry backup. Just need the restore point!

If you've used the registry restore then there won't be any need for the restore point.

4GB is quite a hefty restore.

I have mine set to 2% which sets that to ~10GB and only ~699MB has been used up so far with an auto one following a Windows Update and one manual.

The reason I only have those two is because I've recently done a repair install and it turned off System Protection.

My restore points when they accrue will go back up to two weeks and where the oldest ones fall off, although I've occasionally seen where the points have taken up more space than I'd allocated.

Try the program again to create a restore point and then check to see if it has been created.

Problem : System restore point disappeared

Why it happened: i didn't allocate enough space to system restore

Solution : I have already used a registry backup so i don't need a restore point

Prevention: Allocated system restore more space

Is that right?

Did you create another restore point and check it after allocating more space ?

I'm a bit distrustful of restore points when using a major program like Windows Repair but trust the registry back up, although I usually have or have created a system image onto external media as a fall back.

I just tried creating a restore point after allocating more space to system restore...

It worked! the restore point has been created!

So the problem was not allocating enough space indeed!

One last thing before i mark this topic as solved,

I used my registry backup.

I want to reverse that because i actually like the speed of my computer after the repairs and  tweaks!
In fact, my computer speed, system boot time, and read and write speed has improved a lot!

PS: Sorry for noticing this thing after so many days. If i had noticed this earlier, the case could have been solved earlier.

I suppose the only way to do that would be to run the repairs again as there's no way of knowing which ones had that effect on your computer - but what didn't you like abut them that made you want to restore ?

I wanted to restore because i thought it's not good but later i realized that it's actually good.
