Hello Boggin, uninstalling both Avast and SuperAntispyware still gave the same routine as when they were installed. On a restart computer says installing updates and after 7% it changes to saying could not install and so does a rollback. I just give up so will wait and see if MS will at some stage rectify the situation.

27
Hello Boggin, I am also on the Avast Forum and someone there said do a clean install of Avast so will try that first and if u/s will uninstall it. Thanks.

You can see by my latest posting that although I said I did not get the same link as you described I then set out what I did which happened to be the same path you took. I don't know about overflow but my senior moments appear to be in the same vein.....I will uninstall Avast and have another go. I hope I do not have to do this before every cumulative update.

29
Failed again.

30
The install has succeeded and now says do a restart. There is a choice of restart, one of them says restart and the others says update and restart.

31
Hello Boggin, I do not get that link but upon clicking on the hyperlink failed date it goes to the more info hyperlink which enabled me to get to the download file page. At the moment the green progress bar appears to be sticking and avast taskbar icon is spinning to show it is checking the data. I don't know whether to switch out the avast shields in midstream in case a glitch occurs.

32
Ta, I thought perhaps others would tap into the conversation....As it happens I have just downloaded the latest updates into my wife's computer and three went in but the latest cumulative one failed so that makes two of them.

33
OK. The inverted V box is called the Overflow. something else I just learned late in life!

34
Yes, SAS is the Pro version.  What else is happening is that restarting causes all the taskbar icons to disappear into the box on the taskbar that looks like an inverted V.  I have to either drag them back or in the settings select and switch ON the icons so something is switching them to OFF. Powering down and then rebooting up retains the icons on the taskbar. This has been happening before the current attempt to resolve the update issue.

Hello Boggin, So far the update has now downloaded as it says installing update instead of downloading and the request to restart comes up. Disabling SAS and Avast Free prior to this by temporarily disabling their components in Autorun Organizer made hope they would not interfere. There was a 5% update then the computer did three auto partial restarts saying do not turn off computer.During the final restart I was told the update was rolling back as it could not be fully installed and upon completion both Avast and SAS were running automatically. I then decided to do an indepth disabling by using Autoruns 64 but was denied access to some of the Avast components. Avast does have a self protect process so perhaps that is why it it still active on a bootup. I think I will wait until MS come up with an antidote.

36
Hello Boggin, I did think of turning off Avast Free prior to your suggestion but as I did not see the Avast icon rotating in the taskbar I thought it was not the cause of the problem. However, I have just followed your advice by temporarily turning off the Avast 3 shields and also exiting SuperAntiSpyware. This resulting in the downloading and installing of the windows update but during the restart Avast and SAS automatically kicked in again which resulted in the failure for the update to install. I have just thought of the idea that if I temporarily disable their activities by doing so in Autorun Organiser startup program perhaps the Windows update will succeed.

Just one more thing, her computer each time shows download progress to 11% then stops.

Hello Boggin, Winver on my wife's computer is 14393.187 so it looks as if the KB 3194496 update did not take hold even though the update history for 29th of last month said it did. Her computer is not designated as an insider as she does not have a Microsoft account so the patch did not work.
It looks like we will just have to wait until MS sends an update to rectify the problem.

Hello, My wife's updated W7 to W10 computer successfully installed the cumulative update on the 29th of last month this being the initial update. Every day since then the history update file shows an attempt to automatically install it again with results indicated as failures. The update page indicates it is available for downloading even though it did so on the 29th. It appears to be looping even though the download is not required.
The same cumulative update was successfully downloaded and installed on the 29th on my W8.1 to W10 laptop and my W10 Desktop computer without further looping.

Hi Boggin, I also want to mark as resolved my entry about the 2 TB external USB HDD which had been rendered to a RAW state. I purchased easeUS Date Recovery Wizard Professional and it reclaimed back all the required files. I cannot do a Resolved as the entry has been locked. Thanks

How true! I recently bought the easeUS backup software to use but have been busy installing stuff on the desktop from the laptop and did not think that an image file would have been due as I had not finished the task. Both machines are sitting on the dining room temporarily ( have got used to the wife's nagging) and aim to place the desktop upstairs where I am lucky enough to have my own computer/ den/junk room. It is so full that to get to the back of the desktop I would have to move some large plastic storage containers from the room to access it hence using the table. I had the laptop bought for my 80th birthday last December when my then Acer desktop died and I had installed some paid software on the laptop and was transferring some of the said software to the latest desktop as the laptop is not now the main machine.

Hello Boggin, The disc I used came with the computer and I could only do a factory recovery. I was contemplating using the easeUS Data Recovery Wizard Pro software I bought recently which enabled the claiming back of all the files from a Raw State 2 TB external HDD but it appears that would not work as the lost data is on the system HDD but they do sell software that would be feasible but it cost $99 or so.

Hello Boggin, I discovered the reason for the failure. I had pulled down ClassicShell as I do not like W10's Start Menu. On Tuesday I went to the website and saw an update this being 4.3.0 so downloaded it. Instead of installing a panel flashed up and disappeared quickly so tried again with the same result. I continued to use the desktop as normal and powered down as normal. Yesterday morning it could not boot up and the rest you know. Today I went to the website and in red text is a paragraph saying that on Tue, for a few hours, a hacker had accessed the program which resulted in anyone endeavoring to install it would find their computer unable to boot up........ Version 4.3.0 is still the latest version but will now install ok.

Hello Boggin, The Recovery disc came with the computer. I first tried to do a repair but that failed. I then tried to retain my own files and then do a Recovery. that also failed so I had to a straight recovery and that worked but I lost all my own files. I read earlier today that the Anniversary W10 update came out yesterday. I wonder if that was being downloaded although I did not see any notification saying this was so and I wonder if I may have turned off the computer whilst it was doing so. The computer came with W10 installed.

Hi Boggin, I got the Recovery disc to be read ok but instead of selecting a straight factory reset I went to Repair and clicked on save my files and then do a Reset. At the moment it is at 10%. I expect I could have, before using the disc, taken out the HDD, put into the docking caddy and copied off my files onto another HDD, put the drive back and carry out what it is doing now.

Hello Boggin, I posted the query under my wife's handle but am now reverting back to mine. I have contacted Cyberforce who made the computer and they said to use the Windows 10 Recovery disc that came with it. Ininitially I did not remember I had a disc but found it a little while ago. Should I during a bootup keep pressing f11 to select cd as the bootup source as doing a normal bootup does not link to the cd so I end up still with the black screen. I wonder if I would also lose my own files. I have never had to uses a recovery disc before so this is new ground for me. Sorry for using a different handle and reverting back to my own. Thanks.

General Computer Support / W10 update+SYSTEM_DRV (SOLVED)
« on: July 27, 2016, 03:36:51 am »
Hello All, yesterday I updated my W8.1  laptop to W10 so knew how to to handle certain problems having bought a new Desktop with W10 installed 2 months ago. This morning I noticed a new item on the This PC page, this being SYSTEM_DRV( G:) and consisting of a FAT32 256 MB capacity with 27.9 MB used and Acces Denied. I was able to scan the content with Avast free and although the files flashed by they were prefixed with "Microsoft Boot".  Going back to yesterday the Action Center on booting up and restarting kept telling me that three components were not compatible and therefore uninstalled. Today it no longer declares this so I am wondering if the SYSTEM_DRV unit has rectified it.
