Good morning. Re . event error 4 : Error 0x8004401e encountered when trying to load MOF C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WBEM\EN-US\PROFILEASSOCIATIONPROVIDER.MFL while recovering .MOF file marked with autorecover. 415 entries.
Win features uncheck IE presented error 0x8000FFFF & failed to complete (I use Firefox)

Steps I have taken meanwhile ;
I turned off the "C" missing drive in Sys restore and it disappears, no change in behavior.
I found a registry back up dated 2nd Nov and applied that, 2 win updates detected & successfully applied reboot however no change.
I did find a new batch of 1D 10 errors ;

id 10

Remind me what is jpm's solution to get your system protection back please.
Am I right to assume that "windows repair" refers to the tweaking repair tool?
Tell me are you UK based (time zones)

ran the full new improved cmds, sadly, the repair tool froze in safe mode., this time it got up to Repair Job 7 (previously never past 3) up to "Running Repair under user a/c.
In the cmd box last entries read:
Registering 340 files
ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value. this is repeated 5 times then all still.

Don't know if this detail means anything to you !!!
Looking for my prayer mat to enjoy jmp's input.
I'l run repair again meanwhile.

Ran the complete cmds, however:
e. Run the following command to manually recompile all of the default WMI .mof files and .mfl files
cd %windir%\system32\wbem for /f %s in ('dir /b *.mof *.mfl') do mofcomp %s

returned "File not found".

I repeated the full process and no change.
Below is a raw copy of latest event viewer, First 5 "Warning" then next entry, scores of "Error".

Event viewer threw up the unexpected. Latest repeated entries on 2 fronts.
1. Source Printer service ID 370
2. Source WMI ID 4
I'v attched a raw txt file with details revealed. The last error listed has scores of entries.

I see the printer errors are a windows "thing" no reference to the suit of Cannon software.
So I stopped & disabled the spooler service to see if any improvement.....nada !

Also attch the DXDiag log as I'm in the company of one who can understand these.

I considered reinstating the Macrium or a Refresh however was concerned that a sys freeze during that process would wreck everything.
I'l check the link you sent but I'm at the edge of my knowledge here. I have a W 8.1 ISO-(feb 18) A disc image file 3.4 Gb on standby !

After sleeping on it, to eliminate a memory fault, I ran mdsched.exe in a preboot environment and no errors found. This process ran for "several minutes". I attch a fresh msinfo32 file to assist in possible diagnosis.

Hmm, The intensive disk activity for the check is unnecessary wear on the SSD, and is generally recognised as a bad idea. Though I plan on swapping out the SSD, put it in a USB enclosure to another laptop (to grab data ).I have the original factory fitted drive which I cloned to my current SSD several months ago. I will fit that tomo and will see if that is stable. Interesting...thanks for your time and will keep you posted.
Any thoughts about the 2 "C" drives detected in Sys Restore ?

General Computer Support / W8.1 Freezing
« on: November 15, 2018, 01:05:16 pm »
W8.1 Freezing.
Symptoms :
W8.1 runs for 3 minutes and then freezes. access to the cursor, nothing else. Forced restart and see a change in log in detail. Previously I used a 4 digit pin, now it needed my hotmail password.
Checked :
Task Manager, no wild processes & all appeared normal. Page file, System managed. Ran System Restore which failed to detect previous snapshots. Ran SFC Scan now, OS froze after 20%.
Then time to try Tweaking Repair tool, launched app then into Safe Mode and again system froze after 3 to 4 minutes.
Now this something new. Thinking possible hardware now. Fan kicking as normal, not running hot. So reseated the SSD drive and Ram and did the battery out / hold power button. No improvement.
Digging deeper, with multiple restarts, checked Disc Management and then System Restore which showed 2 entries for C, one label "System" the other "Missing". (See Attach 1) While trying Configure on the missing C drive an error indicated wrong path. (Se Attach 2)
So the only recent change was an auto upgrade to Malwarebytes trail, have disabled that on start up. No change.
So at this point I'm lost! Hope I have detailed the issue so someone (boggin) can help with diagnosis.

General Computer Support / W8.1 with 6 partitions !
« on: February 09, 2018, 05:05:00 am »
My current W 8.1 displays 6 partitions, 3 which are marked "Recovery". My question is what are they, can I see dates of creation or inspect any information on them.
The history of my Acer E!-571 (2012)
Shipped with W.8. upgraded to 8.1 and a recent custom install of 8.1.ISO due to issues with a recovery with factory image W 8. My intention would be to see if my recent install has generated a new recovery partition which I could revert to should more issues arise.
I do not wish to loose any Acer utilities in the process.

General Computer Support / Remove McAfee from W 8.1
« on: February 03, 2018, 06:06:41 pm »
Remove McAfee from W 8.1
After performing a recovery, I used the McAfee removal tool. However there are elements remaining. How do I remove them? No entries in "Uninstall Program's".

39
So when I launch the repair app and enter safe mode thru it, it choses Safe mode without networking. Odd?

40
W 8.1. Issue eratic lock ups.
Ran the repair and found 740 missing packages (related to win updates it said). Ran it again and deleted the missing packages. Ran memory diagnostic & chek disk, nada!
Event viewer : ID 33. Activation context generation failed for "C:\WINDOWS\system32\UIRibbon.dll". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.Windows.GdiPlus,language="*",processorArchitecture="*",publicKeyToken="6595b64144ccf1df",type="win32",version="1.1.6000.16386" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

Currently when I update windows, it detects 6 current important, downloads, installs however on reboot it reports failure on updates and removes them before completing the boot cycle. I get occasional dialogue box saying "Windows not responding, end process". My question is about the Repair app. When I launch and go to Safe mode to run it, it goes off line in Safe mode. I go to the wirless settings and "Connect" to the wirless router, however I see a triangle on the wirless icon. So despite the 15+ odd minutes while in the DISM part I suspect nothing is connecting on line. So how can I launch the repair app with network access in safe mode?

Will you be able to return the mobo or have you ended with a spare one ?

Well the solution finally turned out to be reseating the CPU. Needless purchase of Motherboard in this case. Ah, the learning curve!!

I got a continous tone without the Ram So I pulled apart my other PC and swapped PSU & AMD GFX card, no change. So that leaves MB, CPU & Ram. So the laws of probability (failure rate) point to the MB. Also the easiest, just a click with ebay. So pulled the trigger on that and might have it by the weekend. Time to get thermal paste. Will let you know outcome.
thanks again for your time.

If you remove the module and boot, you should get the memory error beeps but if you don't then that tends to point to the motherboard.

Ah, good diagnostic advice ! However as I got a constant tone after removing Nvidia from PCI.

W 7 : Motherboard Gigabyte GA-FA55M-HD2
My PC is dead, can't complete post. I suspect a hardware issue. So diagnosis begins; The CPU fan runs and I hear the hard drive spinning up. No beeps. The screen is dead so I cant access bios. There is a discreet Nvidia card fitted. To rule out failure of the Nvidia card I need to revert to the on board graphics via Bios. As the screen displays nothing how can I switch graphics ?
I removed the Nvidia from the PCI and got a constant tone from the board. Also shorted jumpers on the board to clear CMOS settings to achieve default settings in the hope that it would revert to the integrated graphics. Nada !
Dont wish to replace the board until I eliminate the Nvidia as causing the issue.
Thoughts ?

Improved Times:
Power up to log in-31" Desktop Icons load additional 15"

Well steady progress I think, reverted to VGA_Intel_9.17.10.2867_W8x64U_A and seems more responsive, found another reoccuring error :
"NT Kernel Logger" stoped due to the following error 0xC000188
Event ID 3
Some discussion on this Intel related:
https://communities.intel.com/thread/110236'

Proposed solution extract
"With this no more boot.etl file is created for nothing and you mantain the Nt kernel events active by default.
Stop the Nt Kernel Logger in Computer Management/Performance/event trace sessions.
Go to the regedit and search all QUEENCREEK entries and delete.
Start Nt kernel logger and restart windows.
No more 2017_01_12__01_13_29_boot.etl in C:\Program Files\Intel\SUR\QUEENCREEK\ folder".
What do you think?
