we need a repair separate from all repairs or included in repair disk options that will return MSFT display to its install state so the system will repair

its likely caused by a virus that attacks the Hz setting; resetting the video drivers display is required to solve this issue for all versions...

I often restore to make sure it works; so many problems in the past. did a system restore.. it failed and hence only appears a black screen now. where is the event log, I will post it, maybe some useful their to review.

Slipstream wont work either; it reports not a boot directory; have repaired the MBR already

downloaded the latest ISO, to no avail MSFT has won so far... But I wont upgrade to 10... NO WAY.... to many installation headaches to overcome with a so called free download!

are their any self bootable fixits? yes I have easy recovery, ran a few times now. when system restarts it changes the MBR code so it can not find the OS;

its hard to imagine can not even use the alt/ctl/del function to bring up the window, at a minimum, that should only always be run in compatibility mode always!

I Will try the Windows usb/DVD Download tool next with the ISO file I downloaded
yes its useful as it creates a boot-able disk except now the big issue is;
* Failed, computer started using the installation disk error message. what a useless time wasting message!

running easy recovery essentials tool; sees all the installations;
* running automated fix though only allows one operating system and not the whole MBR

will also check; except that the new install seems working OK without checking the BIOS;
* (changed it too IDE)...

chkdsk /f /r , fixmbr , fixboot and sfc/scannow ... so far, none has worked... i will chk the BIOS (only do if you are confident in doing so) and will chk my BIOS IDE configuration to see the setting; it might be set to AHCI when it should have been set to IDE, that process alone takes 5 mins max.

please ask them make a function; ctl alt del windows key to reset video settings and reboot automatically

                  If you are having problem in usb/dvd creation, then use this command to boot it . It will not fail. It is workable.
Follow this procedure:
The method is
first insert your 4 gb or more pen drive . Go to
elevated command prompt and type these commands. the following will be
easy to understand

Microsoft DiskPart version 6.1.7000
Copyright (C) 1999-2008 Microsoft Corporation.
On computer:----
Firstly type Diskpart and enter
DISKPART> list disk

DISKPART> select disk 1 Enter
Disk 1 is now the selected disk.

if you boot from cd first,which will have usb as a choice menu. If you
click that one, it will boot from pen drive.
N.B: Enter means , press the Enter key after each command

we are attempting to; run upgrade to repair the Black Screen issue

JR's instructions are for to create a bootable USB from your install disk but the Windows USB/DVD burner tool will do that and a bootable USB is only any good if your computer can boot from an USB as some older models cannot.

You can only do a repair install from within Windows - so that is out.

I used to use the free version of Slimdrivers, but only to see if there were any updates and then go to the driver vendor support sites if I felt an updated driver would be beneficial, but you may get some driver updates through Windows Updates.

the solution is;

I copied my old vista operating system to a new drive prior = bit to bit; making it bootable
working with the old vista system now to update it before copying to a new drive; AGAIN in only one month!
then to upgrade that to win7/ultimate;;

the purpose to do this way way is keep all the programs functioning without restoring them; who knows where the licenses are!
Dear MSFT; your system needs to operate separately from all programs; nice day!

Note; am upgrading the current vista system with a ISO file I downloaded a while back.
"Uninstall Power shell, save your self half an hour wait time by doing it in advance".
