What is the Stop Error Code ?

black screen, get the point? nothing except a mouse pointer

Startup repair error?  root cause; No OS Found on disk

the OS is there, ROOT malfunction and why not add upgrade feature benefits?
try to run upgrade/install from CD gives the CD message not found,

F8 Useless in this case, all back screen

Startup repair error?  root cause; No OS Found on disk;
the only fix to remove message is easy recovery only then after it is removed may we continue with;

the OS is there, ROOT malfunction and why not add upgrade feature benefits?
try to run upgrade/install from CD gives the CD message not found,

F8 Useless in this case, all back screen

we need a repair separate from all repairs or included in repair disk options that will return MSFT display to its install state so the system will repair

its likely caused by a virus that attacks the Hz setting; resetting the video drivers display is required to solve this issue for all versions...

Has this occurred after running the latest version of WR or something that has happened out of the blue.

When changing the Boot order can you boot up with the install disk then ?

I often restore to make sure it works; so many problems in the past. did a system restore.. it failed and hence only appears a black screen now. where is the event log, I will post it, maybe some useful their to review.

Slipstream wont work either; it reports not a boot directory; have repaired the MBR already

downloaded the latest ISO, to no avail MSFT has won so far... But I wont upgrade to 10... NO WAY.... to many installation headaches to overcome with a so called free download!

are their any self bootable fixits? yes I have easy recovery, ran a few times now. when system restarts it changes the MBR code so it can not find the OS;

its hard to imagine can not even use the alt/ctl/del function to bring up the window, at a minimum, that should only always be run in compatibility mode always!

even dos window black screen

:(

I Will try the Windows usb/DVD Download tool next with the ISO file I downloaded
yes its useful as it creates a boot-able disk except now the big issue is;
* Failed, computer started using the installation disk error message. what a useless time wasting message!

running easy recovery essentials tool; sees all the installations;
* running automated fix though only allows one operating system and not the whole MBR

will also check; except that the new install seems working OK without checking the BIOS;
* (changed it too IDE)...

chkdsk /f /r , fixmbr , fixboot and sfc/scannow ... so far, none has worked... i will chk the BIOS (only do if you are confident in doing so) and will chk my BIOS IDE configuration to see the setting; it might be set to AHCI when it should have been set to IDE, that process alone takes 5 mins max.

STOP STOP STOP; Running Combofix before moving forward;
-No help

then will move too; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/927392
not worked either

time to show the problem, see images

The problem is; OS only found one OS installed when their are three
Vista
My black Screen now
+ and the new one I installed to be able to open the disk

Alt Ctl De brings up no window;
Pressing the power button once does enable shutdown;

therefore; we need to fix the video by resetting the to default; is their a function key for that?
please ask them make a function; ctl alt del windows key to reset video settings and reboot automatically

Interesting story here is; I finally updated to win7 12/2/2015 from vista because I bought a new gigabyte motherboard

See if any of the tools on a Paragon Rescue Disk will do anything for you.

While it is free, you'll get an emailed product key to activate it.

https://www.paragon-software.com/home/rk-free/

When it loads, choose the Safe Mode option.

Hi, Rick,
              It seems that you used usb/dvd installer . What the error exactly showing. Would you able to see the hdd in bios. is it recognized or not. Please say.
                  If you are having problem in usb/dvd creation, then use this command to boot it . It will not fail. It is workable.
Follow this procedure:
The method is
first insert your 4 gb or more pen drive . Go to
elevated command prompt and type these commands. the following will be
easy to understand
C:\Windows\system32>diskpart Enter
Microsoft DiskPart version 6.1.7000
Copyright (C) 1999-2008 Microsoft Corporation.
On computer:----
Firstly type Diskpart and enter
DISKPART> list disk
Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt

Disk 0 Online 149 GB 0 B
Disk 1 Online 3834 MB 0 B ()pen drive disk to be selected based on size
DISKPART> select disk 1 Enter
Disk 1 is now the selected disk.
DISKPART> clean Enter
DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk.
DISKPART> create partition primary Enter
DiskPart succeeded in creating the specified partition.
DISKPART> format fs=fat32 quick enter
100 percent completed
DiskPart successfully formatted the volume.
DISKPART> active Enter
DiskPart marked the current partition as active.
DISKPART> exit
Leaving DiskPart...
C:\Windows\system32>exit
. Then insert your dvd in to the drive.
open the installation dvd. Select all copy and send to pen drive.
It
will work 100% without fail. If your cd drive is pucca. Moreover, while
installing windows, you could be amazed at the speed in extracting from
usb. Usb is safe and you need not bother about scratching.

     The copying will take some time to copy 3 gb. insert the

pendrive. Shut down and reboot. Then just select the priority to boot
from usb in the bios, if you have. If that is not, please download plbt
iso, a third party program, which will give you a screen menu from cd,
if you boot from cd first,which will have usb as a choice menu. If you
click that one, it will boot from pen drive.
N.B: Enter means , press the Enter key after each command
If your hdd is not recognized , this will not work
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

JR's instructions are for to create a bootable USB from your install disk but the Windows USB/DVD burner tool will do that and a bootable USB is only any good if your computer can boot from an USB as some older models cannot.

You can only do a repair install from within Windows - so that is out.

I'm puzzled by that Failed: computer started using the installation disk error message you got - is that after changing the boot order and then booting up with the install disk ?

If it boots up with it you need to select Repair your Computer to navigate to the RE to run the Bootrec cmds unless you are going for a clean install - in which case you will lose everything you had on the computer.

The Bootrec cmds will also only work if it can find the OS.

In navigating to the RE it will look for the location of the OS and if that is blank then you're looking at a clean (Custom) install.

The Paragon disk has a File Transfer Wizard which may find something to salvage of your personal stuff.

Where is the event viewer located?; perhaps something useful in their we can review.

additionally; maybe we need reset the explorer command after it boots :)
how to do that?

Can you tell us where you are at with this - did Win 7 reinstall or not or were you able to get the Win 7 install disk to boot up ?

I used to use the free version of Slimdrivers, but only to see if there were any updates and then go to the driver vendor support sites if I felt an updated driver would be beneficial, but you may get some driver updates through Windows Updates.

Remember - MS support for Vista ends 11th April 2017 and then it will no longer be safe to go online with.

the solution is;

I copied my old vista operating system to a new drive prior = bit to bit; making it bootable
working with the old vista system now to update it before copying to a new drive; AGAIN in only one month!
then to upgrade that to win7/ultimate;;

the purpose to do this way way is keep all the programs functioning without restoring them; who knows where the licenses are!
Dear MSFT; your system needs to operate separately from all programs; nice day!

Note; am upgrading the current vista system with a ISO file I downloaded a while back.
"Uninstall Power shell, save your self half an hour wait time by doing it in advance".

More later -

I use another program for that purpose;; that too is also a ridiculous MSFT issue having suffered over the years from re-installing and limiting the license; should be against the law :)

And yet another flaw! Re-installing Outlook

Why not; when we re-add the mail accounts; only ask to retrieve a certain number of days to recover?
need do all and wastes bandwidth?

THAT UPDATE WOULD BE WELCOME
