Thank you for your reply.  I did a chkdsk /f command on the external hard drive.  It appeared to correct a couple of errors and my issue currently seems resolved.  I will hold on to this in case.  Thank you.

I always have trouble when I come here getting the right file.  I am using Windows 10.  Can someone give me the direct link to the tweaking program I need to use to fix Windows 10?  I am using an external hard drive.  When I tried to save a picture from Facebook to the external hard drive today it said it wasn't responding and eventually timed out.  I tried to save a Publisher file today to my external hard drive and it stopped responding and then timed out.  One time while trying to save a picture from Facebook I got an I/O error.  My external hard drive is fairly new and shouldn't have a problem.  When I try to run my anti-virus, it stops at about 80%, both on my C drive and my external hard drive.  I don't know if I have a Windows error, a hard drive error, or just what.  Any suggestions on top of the correct link would be appreciated.  Assume I should run tweaking in case it's a Windows's error????

A friend of mine using Windows 10 and Google Chrome, clicked and somehow her Home Page which is Yahoo covers only part of the page now.  Her desktop shows at the top.  It is too wide as she has lost the ability to find a scroll or the close x to the right.  She tried dragging it to the top and it won't drag.  I have no idea what she did or clicked or how to get the page back to normal.  This is windows 10.  Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'm getting now what you were talking about and viewing the event Show All Instances of the Event.  Not a lot of help.  I'll continue to see how things run.  Thanks for your help.

Thank you for walking through this with me.  I don't really know what all the events in the event viewer means.   I don't even know if I'm looking at the right things.   I have attached the screen shots.  Perhaps this will tell you something or let me know if I should do a Tweaking with Shane's program, or just continue to see how things go.  Appreciate your help on this.  Thank you.

How do I find the event viewer?  As for the strange start up screen, when it booted up the date and time came up on a blue screen with nothing else.  It usually comes up with a picture.  Then the picture came up but the picture was all that was there, no date and time.  Nothing was happening, I hit the enter key and finally it asked me for my PIN to log in.

I had a bad program on  my computer and edited the Registry.  The computer was slow booting up.  It was running slow, but seems to be pepping back up.  I had a strange screen when I booted up.  I'm not sure I need to tweak or not.  Right now it seems fine.  I'm afraid to turn it off.  But I need to do that here shortly as I need to take it with me to a meeting.  I don't know whether to tweak or just to see how it does.  It did boot up, so I'm hoping it boots up again.  Thanks for responding.  I figured Shane would have things going great, but I wasn't sure if the newer Windows 10 was included in his Tweaking.

I am using Windows 10, I have the new, downloaded automatically by Windows, the Anniversary Edition.  Does Tweaking work well with Windows 10?  Which version of Tweaking should I use?

I have no idea how this happened.  I was trying all your suggestions.  It was totally black later and not even a hint of the Dell Splash screen.  I tried booting using F2, nothing.  I took out battery, used power button to release all power, reset memory chip, nothing.  Download Ubunktu.  Tried booting from USB with that on it, nothing.  I took that USB out, took out the USB for the mouse and tried booting using F8.  The screen came up!  I went into BIOS, checked the boot sequence, it was normal.  All appeared normal.  I put the mouse USB back in.  No problems.  Windows had some updated downloads.  I downloaded them and the computer went black again.  Got it to come back with Cnt-Alt-Delete.  Cleaned the computer, ran as it was a bit slow.  Everything is booting normal and the screen seems fine.  I have no idea if the combination of trying different things helped.  I don't know if it was stuck on the mouse USB boot, but I don't think so.  But for now, it is working.  I am skeptical that perhaps something is still going to the bad, but maybe not.  Maybe it was just stuck somehow.  Thanks for all the suggestions.  Something worked.

Shane, Ubunktu says it's free but when I click on download it wants $2.  I can't find a free download.  Not to mention, how can I run it if the screen on the laptop is blank?  I can't see anything to run anything.  Do you know where I could purchase a hard drive that would be refundable if it wasn't the hard drive?  I'm not even sure what kind of hard drive it would take.  I found out it is a Dell Inspiron 1521 tat is 7 years old.

I have no idea if it is booting up or not.  The screen is black.  I see nothing.  The computer is on, the lights are on, but no way of telling if it is the monitor for sure or the hard drive.  I can't run any diagnostics or do anything as I can't see anything on the screen.

I have a friend's computer, an old Dell laptop.  I want to say it is close to 10 years old, but I am not sure.  The screen is black.  When it first boots you see the Dell Splash screen for about 1 second and then nothing but black.  To troubleshoot I plugged a monitor into the laptop.  Nothing came up on the monitor.  That monitor was black also.  So I am thinking that it is not the monitor on the laptop but possibly the hard drive that is bad.  I'm thinking if the monitor on the laptop was bad, it would have booted up on the monitor I attached to the laptop.  Any thoughts???

Wow, a friend accidentally turned their computer off while they were running some windows diagnostics.  I have attached the screen shot they get when they turn the computer on.  Nothing will get them out of this screen.  I had them try booting from their diagnostics CD and they got the same screen.  I had them try booting from the recovery disc and they got the same screen.  I had them try pressing F8 while bootin and they got the same screen.  Cannot get out of this screen to try and diagnostics or fix anything.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I have never seen this screen, and never seen where you couldn't boot into the recovery disc.

 jraju, I managed to solve the problem using the Catalyst Control Center.  Control Zero only worked at resizing the page in Firefox.  It didn't work in the screen resolution screen.  Thanks though, I have the issue resolved.

Here is the fix for getting rid of the User Account Control (UAC) always asking for administrator run privileges.  If you would like to not have to bother always having to remember a password or be asked for one when performing an operation without windows asking for administrator run privileges, do the following.  Download a little program called Tweak UAC.  You can download free of all malware from Major Geeks at this address:  Run the program after downloading and it will bring up a box giving you three options for how you want to have the administrator privileges run.  You can turn it off completely, turn it off, run it in quiet mode where it won't prompt you, or leave it on.  Since I am the only one using my computer I turn it off completely.

I go to the home page.  There is a new version, but no download button.  The only download button takes me to Reimage Repair.  I want to download tweaking only.  How do I do this?

Working on a friend’s computer.  The issue was, Yahoo (I know I hate Yahoo and don’t recommend it, but you can’t change some people!) inbox has the preview turned off, but you can only see a part of the listing of the email in the inbox.  There are more emails, but it won’t show them in the listing.  I checked the view, and tried grabbing and expanding it, and neither worked.  This is a laptop running Vista Ultimate.  It looked like the screen resolution may have been set to large.  I know the woman’s husband has bad eyes and has a tendency to expand the screens too big.  You can’t see all of what is opened and sometimes you can’t even see the x to close them out.  I went in to try to change the screen resolution.  First it wanted administrator privileges, and he claims he gave it no password.  Nothing worked to get past that.   I finally got to where I could change the screen which was set at 1280 x 1024.  When I changed it I thought it looked like it was going smaller, but it went bigger.  Now when I open it to change it again, you can’t get to the bottom where you can change it and where you can save the changes.  There is no scrolling bar anywhere.  The edges nor the corners don’t grab so you can size the window.  Someone suggested I do Alt + space bar, click on Move and use the arrow keys.  That worked, however, as soon as I touch either the keyboard or the mouse to change the resolution, the screen pops back up to the top of the box and you lost the lower part of the box to change the resolution and save it.  How the heck do I get down to the bottom to make the changes and save them?  I need to fix this ASAP so they can use the computer again.  Also, wold a fix be that in the Registry I see about three screen resolutions.  Can I delete a couple of the newer ones without damaging the registry or the computer?  Please help me get to the bottom of the screen to change the resolution.

So if I get a wireless N router, it will still work my devices even if they are not Wireless N compatible?  They just won't work as quickly as Wireless N would allow??? How do I tell if my devices support Wireless N?

Thank you.  So you like the Wireless N?  Any computer and network will support Wireless N????  How difficult is it to get computers, printers, etc. to recognize the new router if you put one in?  Do you have to go to each wireless device and reconfigure?  I've never replaced a router before.

So I hard wired each computer to the modem and by-passed the router.  There seemed to be some noticeable speed increase.  Still a little slower, but I could notice enough of a difference.  Router has to be at least 4 years old and I'm assuming that something newer may help.  Because I can no longer access the router using the URL it uses, I kind of think there is no support and it is so outdated that it may need replacing.  I hate to invest in a new router if it isn't going to help.  Does anyone know the difference between a G and N network for the router?  I am not up on routers.  I currently have a Linksys 2.4 Ghz, 802.11 G Wireless-G router.

I can plug the desktop into the modem instead of the router and do the test.  I'll try that.  It just kind of made sense to me that for the browser to connect to the internet, it must send it's signal to the router and that perhaps the router was slowing that signal down.

The only add on running is my Password manager.  I have nothing else running on the browser.  No add-ons or extensions. The fact that typing in the URL to access the router is making me think the router is too old and should be replaced.  A hassle doing that though to put all computers, printers, etc. onto a new router.
