General Computer Support / Re: Windows Update Hangs Indefinitley
« on: June 23, 2016, 04:24:41 am »

Here is an article about "How to fix slow Windows 7 update scans":
http://www.infoworld.com/article/3086811/microsoft-windows/microsoft-releases-kb-3161647-kb-3161608-to-fix-slow-windows-7-update-scans.html

I have tried it and my windows update works as it should now.

When I search for new updates in Windows Update I take a look in Process Explorer and the cpu should go up on TrustedInstaller.exe and not Svchost.exe. If cpu goes up on Svchost.exe it will take several hours!

If Windows Update takes a very long time, you could go to services and go to Windows Update a click stop and then follow the article above!

Hi jraju!

If you have a laptop, have you tried to unplug the power cord, then take out the battery, unplug all usb devices, leave it alone for a minute or two and then replug the power cord and then the battery.  Turn the computer on and restart as normal. Replug in your usb devices.

Have you tried the USB Cable to another available USB port? And then restart the computer and the printer after that try the installation again.

Have you tried to reset the printer?
You can read more here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02266743

Resetting the printer resets any USB connections between the printer and computer.

1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
7.Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the
carriage might move.
9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before
you proceed.

Have you tried Microsoft fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/

Hi jraju!

I didn't see that you edit you post, but maybe somebody else also needs the link too.

Jraju, you did a great summary of the "Technicians Toolbox"!  :)

Thanks for all the answers!

Its not really a maximize option but a fit in current window button. MDI  forms are rather limited and I have already done some pretty cool things  to over come those limitations. maximizing though isnt one of them lol

Ok I think I get it now!

I don't know about this one, in the help file under System Monitors - Drives you wrote: "choosen" my english isn't so good but shouldn't it say "chosen"?

Under Tools - Manage Windows Users and Groups - In "Current System Password Polices:" and under "Policy" It doesn't show special swedish letters! I post a picture!

Under Tools - Network Tools - TCP & UDP Stats - I would like to rezie the window here so I can see all the value at the same time or if you could  have "Resize Window to Screen" option here also?

Tomas_Sweden, excellent testing :-)

You are welcome!

Driver Monitor Report - Save list as a web page. html and plain tex. txt, doesn't show any value.

This still doesn't work!

As for the maximize option. These are MDI forms but because I am doing my own custom graphics and title bar doing a MDI child maximize wont work properly. So instead I made something else, in the windows that are resizeable you will see a new button in the title bar, this button will resize the window to fit the current work space in the program. So pretty much like maximize but if you resize the main window the child form stays the same size, but hit the button again and it resizes.

Then I hit the "Resize Window to Screen" button again it doesn't resizes again, it stay maximized/full fitted to the current work space in the program!

All the other changes work perfect, great!

You didn't answar this: "I played around with "Windows Services Safe Mode" so I allowed all services in safe mode, is there disadvantages by having it that way?
I would like to have an option so I could undo my changes!"

Driver Monitor Report - Save list as a web page. html and plain tex. txt, doesn't show any value.

Windows Services Allowed In Safe Mode Report - Save list as a web page. html and plain tex. txt, doesn't show any value.

Take A Screen Shot doesn't work - none of the option work, the picture doesn't show anything. But then I try to make a screen shot in windows by clicking "Printscr" on my keyboard it does work!

The "System Monitors" I would like to maximize them and also "Svchost.exe Lookup", "Process Information", "Windows Services" and "Windows Services Safe Mode"!

I played around with "Windows Services Safe Mode" so I allowed all services in safe mode is there disadvantages by having it that way?
I would like to have an option so I could undo my changes!

I would like to close tab by middle clicking mouse!

I would like to use Keyboard Shortcuts, like ctrl + a, ctrl + c, when there is a list!

Happy new year!  :cheesy:

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Statistics about Windows Repair?

Shane, do you have any statistics on how many times that "Tweaking.com - Windows Repair (All in One)" have been downloaded? Feels like the program is popular!  :)

Tomas

Thanks for clearing that up!

But Windows own "uninstall or change a program" is the ONLY uninstall that show the install date correct!
IObit shows wrong because it show from the date I made a "repair install of windows 7" and not from the date I originally installed Windows 7.

I will contact both Revo and IObit and see that they say!

Tomas

13
I don't know if I should start a new thread but I run Windows Repair 2.9.2 and only run 01 Reset Registry Permissions.
I did a repair install of windows 7 - 16 July 2014 and originally, I installed Windows 7 - 23 December 2013.

In Revo Uninstaller Pro the installation for all the program is the date of today 2014-10-02, in Iobit Uninstaller 4, the install date, displayed dates from 16 July 2014 to the date of my latest install and in windows "uninstall or change a program" some program show from 2013-12-23 until to the date of my latest install.

I'm wondering why not IObit and Revo shows the correct install date after I run "Reset Registry Permissions"?

When you are done inside the clean boot and you are going to restart the computer again, then you can enable them all again.
Yes you have to enable them all again, otherwise they will never start.

But you can enable and disable all the files in the task scheduler in a faster way, by selecting them all at once and then choose disable / enable, like in my picture.
This is if you have windows Vista, 7, 8 & 8.1

Tomas

15
Try the latest version of Windows Repair which is 2.8.8 and see if that help you:

So Shane had a look at my computer and the driver was the cause of my problem.
Touchpad was using the varible for program files instead of the actual
path in the registry(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run).

Shane, I reinstalled touchpad again and the driver change the path to %ProgramFiles% instead of C:\Program Files\.

Thanks for this Shane!  :)

Sounds like your touch pad software simply wasnt starting back up at startup, if you ever do it again let me know and I would be happy to take a look and see if I can find what is going on.
I noticed a thing now, If I disable "Synaptics TouchPad Enhancements" in autoruns and log out, log in again and enable it again log out and log in again it works but if I do the same with msconfig then I have to reinstall the driver again.
You are free to have a look if you want!

Shane I think you should write how to start it all again later or just write that they should enable 3rd party programs, services and programs in the  task scheduler that they disabled, unless it is written, some will probably not understand that they have to enable the program again.
I tried a clean boot and then I turned it on again my touchpad software didn't start. Something went wrong so I had to reinstall it.
Tried it once more and with the same result with synaptics touchpad.
What I want to say is that there is a risk that some will have problem when they enable program again after they have done a clean boot.

Sorry for being a killjoy  :shy:

Don't think there is any button. But you can add (Solved) to the Subject: "Re: How Do I Download Tweaking."

But is it that it is enabled to the owner of the thread or anybody.

I think only owner of the thread and Shane could change the title to solved.

jraju, I think this will explain about solved:

The person who started the thread have to add (solved) to the title himself.
