Windows 7 Home premium doesn't have gpedit.msc.
You can only find gpedit.msc in the Ultimate, Professional (old Business) and Enterprise editions, and not in the Home Premium or Basic editions.

What program is there that tells you what files in your computer are what size?

For example.....I want to know what the largest files in my computer are. How do I get a list of this?

What kind of error do you get then you try to start IE? What does it say in Event Viewer?

Can you start Internet Explorer with all add-ons disabled? (Click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).)

Here is a "Auto Repair Internet Explorer" program: http://www.ghacks.net/2009/10/14/auto-repair-internet-explorer-with-fix-ie-utility/

And here is also a program that had helped people with IE "IEFix - General purpose fix for Internet Explorer" http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

On Microsoft community forum I found this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_cp-winapps/cannot-install-windows-8-apps-error-0x80073cf9/97e793dc-4d46-44ab-a7ec-ec4a2b435304

The problem is that the folder AUInstallAgent is missing from the Windows folder.....
"Create the AUInstallAgent folder in the %windir% folder. Reboot after you make it."
I had this problem, recreated the folder and low and behold all is working fine.
Now what I want to know is why the folder disappeared in the first place, because I didn't delete it, and looking around the web I'm not alone....

Also this solution seems to help some people too:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-winapps/this-app-wasnt-installed-error-0x80073cf9/92ec7c44-51ef-4c6a-9331-22958e01b4ec?page=3

"i had the same problem. I think it has to do with the Windows refresh/restore function.
   1. Go to c:\Program Files\
   2. Create folder "WindowsApps"
   3. Restart."

Do you have a laptop or a desktop computer and which Windows version do you have?

Is there is no CD/DVD drive listed in BIOS?

Did you check the master/slave jumpers?

Does the drive show up in Device Manager?

You can run "Farbar Service Scanner" to see if these services are ok:
Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center
Windows Update

There is more info here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic436093.html

I think that Microsoft Security Essentials is designed to disable Windows Defender in win 7, but that doesn't explain why it doesn't work.

Have you search for virus or malware?

Have you tried step 1, 2 and 3 in Windows repair?

I have run the RB with "normal" start in schedule options for a week now (on my brothers win xp computer) and no error!

Tomas

88
It happens as often as before, but it's only the first time I start the computer I get the error.

I will try run RB normal in Task Scheduler, have to wait couple of days to see what happens.

Tomas

89
I have got the error two times now, it's then I start the computer. I see nowhere in Win XP where I can delay the start of Registry Backup in Task Scheduler, so I can try that.

Tomas

90
Ok I have tried the latest RB 1.5.0 on my brothers computer and I ran it from Task Scheduler, logged off and on, restarted windows and it worked as it should all the time!  :cheesy:

Tomas

91
Does RB crashes because it uses Task Scheduler as hidden or does it crash because it uses Task scheduler as hidden and at the same time use "auto delete old backups"?

Tomas

Tomas_Sweden, how goes the program so far on the crashing?
I will go to my brother tomorrow and check.

When you guys have it run through the Task Scheduler do you have the program set to be hidden, minimized or showing and with what account?
I have it set to be hidden!

Tomas

93
Ok I have tried the new version now on my brothers xp computer, so far so good!

First I had "Auto Delete Old Backups" set to delete 7 days and keep 7 backups, but it didn't delete any backups so I changed the settings and restarted several times, now I have it set to "delete" 1 days and keep 0 backups, I will try this for some time so I know that it all works.

Tomas

94
Ok!
I will go to my brother in the beginning of next week!

Tomas

95

Even the new version is crashing on his XP? Does it finish the backups before the crash?
Yes even the latest version(1.4.3) and Yes the backup finish before the crash.

Tomas

96
Shane, if you look at http://www.tweaking.com/forums/index.php/topic,278.msg3112.html#msg3112 you see that I have a similar crash on my brothers computer(Win xp Sp3) and the crash is still there!

Tomas

97
If you are using Win Vista or Win 7 (I dont know about Win 8) you can use "System Restore Explorer" to browse and select individual system restore points and delete them, very useful tool!

If I look at my Win 7 computer I don't have this entry in the registry, but I do have IE 9.

It should be enought with "per-user setting" HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
but I'm not sure, I haven't had this problem myself.

Before you try this do a backup(export) the registry key of Internet Settings.
In regedit go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
Then click on "File" and Export, name the file to what you want and for example save it to the desktop, if anything goes wrong then you just double-click on it.

I think you should add 32-bit DWORD, "value name": BypassSSLNoCacheCheck and "value data": 1 with Base Hexadecimal.
